Homemade Spaghetti

Spaghetti has always been one of my favorite foods. This is a recipe that I used for my family when we lived on the farm.

Homemade Spaghetti
Cuisine: Italian
Recipe type: Pasta
Serves: 4
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • ¼ cup onion, chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • ¼ cup chopped bell pepper
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes, undrained
  • 1 can (8 oz) tomato sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • ½ teaspoon dried oregano
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon pepper
  • 8 ounces uncooked spaghetti
  1. In a large skillet, cook the 1 pound lean ground beef with onion garlic and bell pepper over medium heat 8 to 10 minutes. Stir occasionally, until beef is thoroughly cooked.
  2. Stir in the tomatoes, tomato sauce, basil, oregano, salt, and pepper. Heat to boiling over high heat.
  3. Cover and cook for 35 minutes on medium low heat. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
  4. After the sauce has cook for 20 min., fill a 4 quart Dutch oven or pan about half full of water. Heat over high heat until water is boiling rapidly. Add the spaghetti and boil uncovered 8 to 10 minutes, stirring frequently, until tender.
  5. Drain spaghetti and serve with sauce.
